The Luzerne County Republican Party

As a life long Republican, I have to tell you that I am very excited about the direction the County Party is moving in. There is excitement and purpose that have been lacking for decades. The sheer numbers of people showing up for candidate announcements alone is exciting.

We all know that in the past, the county party lacked leadership and wasn't exactly open to new faces (Ha!! that puts it mildly). With Terry Casey at the helm and Renita Fennick directing, the change is obvious. People from all walks of life are coming out to events and frankly, that is a good thing. I have read at some other local blogs that it is just the same as it was in times past. That couldn't be farther from the truth!!

I encourage all to come to this Thursday's Lincoln day to meet the candidates. Some of the local boys have been writing that only registered Republican candidates can address the audience. While that is true, I would bet that every single person running for judge will be there and I think everybody should come out to meet them and get a sense of who you will be voting for. More importantly, I'd like you to come out and talk to the people in attendance. You will see that it is not the "Old Rich Man's Club" that you have been led to believe. The people that will be there will be your neighbors, co-workers, and gasp, maybe even your friends.

I will be there and hope to see you there.

How can you be excited about the direction the party is going? Three open seats for judge and with over 700 lawyers in Luzerne County, they only have one candidate. Why? Deals to support two Dems, that's why. O'Connor for one and not sure on the other. Business as usual. It is nice that they can create jobs and are able to pay for a full-time director at $50,000 per year. This salary comes from contributions. Why would anyone contribute to cover this salary year after year if they didn't expect to get something out of it? They wouldn't...business as usual. Backdoor deals and kickbacks are sure to continue.

Have you been to a single event at the HQ?

Yes there are three seats up for judge and last I heard there were 15 people running. I can't keep track of who is or isn't running but certainly wouldn't blame anybody for figuring there were enough hats in the ring.

I met Dick Hughes on saturday and was very impressed.

As for the rest of your blather, you are wrong. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that you are a leftwing moonbat with too much time on your hands. However, if you are a registered Republican, come to Thursday's event and then pass judgement.

I am proud to be a republican, just not proud of our county repulican party. I have been to events, been at the headquarters and I too have met Dick Hughes and think he is a good candidate. I just think we should have a slate of 3 good republican candidates. NONE of the others with their hats in the ring are republicans. As for the rest of my "blather"...executive director IS being paid (including benefits) $50,000 yearly. Her pay DOES come from contributions from the rich good ole boys club, the same ones that will be paying THOUSANDS to meet Rove. I would not pass judgment without knowledge of what ACTUALLY goes on with our elitist party. If you want to run for county or higher office and have the backing of the county party you must first have a sit down with Solano to get approval. That's how it has been for years and how it is today.

Have you talked with Renita? I do not believe it would be possible to have someone of her caliber volunteer to do a 50 hour work week. She is being paid because it is a full time job trying to build up the local party. So far, she has impressed the hell out of me.

For the record, I am not wealthy yet have been treated extremely well and had my opinions respected. In the not so old days, unless you were a member of the group you speak of, you would never be invited to any function other than a fundraiser let alone meetings.

For every person that is paying to see Rove, I'll introduce you to 10 that aren't or won't.

As for needing the backing to run for office. Not one candidate has the official backing of the county party yet and still many are running. As you must know, the party will be endorsing candidates. Not one has been endorsed yet and yes, I would know.

I'm always glad to talk to my fellow republicans and hope to see you there and we can chat face to face on Thursday. If you are who I think you are, Gort will be there and introduce you to me. Sorry for getting on my high horse, no offense was meant.

If you met Dick Hughes on Saturday, where has he been as being a part of the republican party and/or where have you been. I have been a committeeperson for over 10 years, worked on both the Bush and McCain campaigns, been to state committee, and many county fundraisers. Terry Casey only came into the picture last summer as the "chosen" one by Solano and his hacks. He was not active in the party prior to that and that is true. Hopefully your dream team will make you proud.

As jaded as you are now, so I once was. I vividly remember trying to get involved in the party 8 or 10 years ago. They eye judged me and that was that and I got mad enough not to bother getting involved until now.

Say what you will about my "dream team" but we can't change things without our voices being allowed to be heard. At least they listen and actually want dialogue.

I started getting involved in last years 10th and 11th primaries. Those were the first fundraisers that I had been to in years. I refused to go to the county fundraisers because there was no point in my eyes. That sounds about where you are at now.

Will I see you on Thursday?

Shoot me an e mail if you'd like. zenrants@aol.com

Simple question Zen which will reveal your independence of the party strucutre - did you support Meuser or Hackett in the 10th primary? Clearly, one was the "establishment" candidate and one was chosen by the voters. Who did you raise money for?

You must've just started reading my blog. Being friends with both men, the choice wasn't easy for me. To answer your question, I supported Dan.

For the record Chris actively sought the support of the "establishment" right up until he lost the general election. Before the primary, both men met several times with the "establishment" to discuss their various positions and court that support. That is a fact.
